December 31st

Today is New Years Eve!  Wow another year gone already.  I must be getting older as they seem to fly by a bit quicker every year.

It has been a wonderful year and here are some of the great things that happened:

  • Moved in with my loving g/f
  • Started my own web design business (holler if you need web help)
  • Started daily meditation / yoga
  • recommitted to the Eat to Live lifestyle
  • Started the path to self-love
  • Another year drug free!

I have not decided how I want today to be.  Do I go out with a healthy bang or do I throw in one last binge for 2009?

Seriously though…Today I will seek balance – perhaps a drink or too, maybe a bite of something sweet, a green smoothie for sure and a bike ride without a doubt.  Mostly I want today to be about celebration of life and of accomplishment – tomorrow I will look forward.
See you all in 2010!

December 30th

Goals Today:

  • Vegan X
  • Grain Free X
  • Wheat Free X
  • Corn Free X
  • Alcohol Free √
  • 30 min of Meditation / Yoga √ (1 hour with meditation group)

Breakfast:

  • Grilled broccoli, potatoes,  and onions with salsa and guacamole
  • Coffee

Snack:

  • Vegan Soy Mocha (this made me very sleepy and was WAY TOO sweet 😦

Okay, so I failed drastically today…I totally gave into emotional / holiday eating.  I went out to eat with some coworkers and ate chicken flautas with cheese and sour cream and chips and lemonade.  Then at work I gave into the cookie pile and ate 4 chocolate mints and 2 mint chocolate cookies.  Then after work I ate more tortilla chips with queso and cheese pizza!  I can’t even believe it.  My addict side totally took over and it’s like my rational self was gone.  After all these years, I am still not always strong enough to catch myself.  WOW.  Well, back on track for tomorrow.

This morning, we went to a meditation group – it was quite lovely – I wonder if my binge is related to that somehow.  Feeling good and being afraid, so have to make myself feel bad…

December 29th

Goals Today:

  • Vegan X (chicken)
  • Grain Free √
  • Wheat Free √
  • Corn Free √
  • Alcohol Free √
  • 30 min of Mediation / Yoga x

Breakfast:

  • Coffee
  • Smoothie (water, banana, spinach, strawberries, grapes, spash of lime juice

Lunch:

  • Chickpea curry (chick peas, canned tomatoes, snap peas, curry powder, onion – I think that was all that was in there.  My g/f made this last night while I was dining out with a friend.  It was really good – much better than last night’s dinner.  Guess we should have eaten at my house 🙂
  • Lunch Salad

Snack

  • 2 apples
  • cashews

Dinner:

  • Cinnamon dusted butternut squash
  • Cabbage, Chicken, and Almond Salad

Today was good.  Really busy, but good.  I had dinner at Whole Foods deli and stayed wheat, grain, and corn free so that is good.  I like the deli although they do use a lot of oil in the food.  I chose the foods that looked the least grease laden and both of my dishes were quite good.  The squash was a bit dry and so was the salad, but I would rather have it be a bit dry instead of oily.

December 28th

Goals Today:

  • Vegan
  • Grain Free x (rice noodles)
  • Wheat Free
  • Corn Free
  • Alcohol Free √
  • 30 min of Mediation / Yoga

Breakfast:

  • Coffee
  • 2 apples
  • 1 oz dried fruit and raw nuts

Lunch:

So today is kind of crazy here at the office. There are cookies and candies EVERYWHERE! There is a table by my office with several boxes of junk food and I keep hearing people say “these look so good” and the response is always, “they are good, but I had to get them out of the house” I want to say – “hey if you really cared about us, you would throw them away instead of bringing them here!” I decided shut my mouth and take pics instead. My lunch was great and am glad that I took Nancy Reagan’s advice and just said no.

My Lunch:

Their Lunch:

Dinner:

  • I ate out with a friend and it was a mistake 😦  I have eaten at the place we went several times and they are very accommodating to my vegan / wheat free eating style.  I fell into an old pattern and decided that I should have a noodle dish because it was really, really cold outside and I wanted comfort food.  It was still vegan and wheat free as it was made with rice noodles, but the sauce was way too sweet and oily and there were only 3 pieces of broccoli.  Lesson learned.
  • 1 oz raw cashews and 1/4 cup of vegan chocolate chips.

Today was really good until dinner and it was really not that bad, other than that my food didn’t taste good.  I stayed corn, wheat, and alcohol free and I did meditation / yoga for 30 minutes.  I really like doing the meditation as I feel like it helps me connect with myself.

Wheat Allergies

This is why I should not eat wheat. After yesterday’s indiscretion here are my symptoms

  • rash and hive on my face
  • stuffy nose
  • stiff joints
  • headache

Check out this pic.   My skin is generally clear but on Sunday evening, several hours after eating wheat, this rash appeared.  The same thing happened last time I ate bread.

December 27th

I have decided that one day a week, I can eat whatever I want.  I am going to try it for a bit anyway.  Today I did this and felt like shit all day.

Breakfast:

  • 3 egg omelet with spinach, feta, garlic, and roasted potatoes
  • 2 Mimosas

Snack:

  • Vegan Chocolate Chips

Dinner

  • Weary Traveller – West of the Andes Sandwich with Carne Asada
  • Garlic Roasted Potatoes
  • Crispin Cider

Was too full from breakfast to eat lunch.  The food tasted good in that salty sort of way.  The West of the Andes Sandwich used to be my favorite, but now is sort of just fatty and greasy.  Plus the wheat bun gave me a rash on my face.  I have been noticing that whenever I eat wheat, I get a rash on my right cheek.  Before bed, I came down with a splitting headache and felt achy too.  Hmmm – why do I feel the need to eat this way?

  • Vegan √
  • Grain Free √
  • Wheat Free √
  • Corn Free X
  • Alcohol Free X
  • 20 min of Mediation / Yoga X

Breakfast:

  • Left over vegan lasagna

Lunch:

  • We ate at the new Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant, The Green Owl Cafe. I had the MIDDLE-EASTERN PLATTER (hummus, tabouli, muhammara (roasted red pepper and walnut spread) and baba ganoush served with toasted pita, olives and pickled vegetables.)  I substituted the tabouli and pita for fresh veggies.  The staff was very accommodating and answered all of my questions about the food.  I also had a side salad consisting of greens and fresh grapefruit.  YUM!  I will eat here again for sure.
  • My g/f and I went to a movie and we ate popcorn with no “butter flavor”  Not great for me, but okay for once in a while

Dinner:

  • Smoothie (banana, spinach, blueberry, and pineapple)
  • Left over lasagna from yesterday
  • Crispin Cider

All in all I have done quite well for this holiday.  I avoided cookies and candies and the heavy, starch, meat laden Xmas dinners.  I feel good about my choices.
